About Us

Ways to Support Our Mission

Your generosity helps older adults across Aroostook County stay independent, safe, and connected. Find the way of giving that fits you or your business.

45%

Federal and state funding

Public funding covers less than half of what we do

Only 45% of the Agency's costs are supported by federal and state funding sources. The rest relies on fee-for-service programs, grants, and the generosity of our community. Public funding has not kept up with growing needs, and some programs must cap enrollment or keep waiting lists. Your support extends our reach to more of our older neighbors.

Choose How to Give

Individual Gifts

One-time or recurring support

Make a one-time or recurring gift to keep our programs running strong. By supporting the areas of greatest need or funding a specific program you are passionate about, you provide the reliable, ongoing resources our older neighbors need to live independently and with dignity.

Honor a Memory

A memorial or tribute gift is a lasting way to remember a family member, friend, or neighbor, or to celebrate someone who has made a difference in your life. Your gift turns a loving memory into meals, rides, and companionship for older adults across The County.

How Your Gift Works

  • Choose to make a one-time gift or provide ongoing support with a recurring monthly contribution.
  • Direct your impact: Choose a specific program to support, or let us put your gift where the need is greatest.
  • Share the tribute: If making a memorial or honorary gift, let us know if you would like the family notified.
  • Every gift matters: Gifts of any size are welcome and deeply appreciated.

Planned Giving

A legacy that supports older adults in Aroostook County

For more than 50 years, the Agency has helped older adults stay independent, safe, and connected. By including the Foundation for the Aroostook Agency on Aging in your estate plans, you help ensure future generations receive the support they need.

Many supporters give through

  • Bequests in a will or trust
  • Retirement plan beneficiaries (IRA, 401(k), etc.)
  • Life insurance designations
  • Gifts of appreciated assets, such as stocks

The Meridian Society

Donors who remember the Foundation in their estate plans are invited to join the Meridian Society, a shared commitment to the future of aging in Aroostook County. There is no minimum gift amount. Membership recognizes commitment, not gift size.

Be a visible supporter of aging

Volunteer Time Off

Let your team give time that changes lives

Many companies offer employees paid time off to volunteer during the workday, known as VTO. It can be a shared day of service or an hour or two each month, such as packing or delivering meals, visiting with an older person, or teaching tech basics. It is about the right fit for your company, and we are flexible.

What to know

  • All volunteers are covered by the Agency's liability insurance
  • A basic background check and a one-hour onboarding session are required; the Agency covers the cost
  • Choose causes that matter most to your team, such as nutrition or caregiver support
  • We document volunteer hours for employees and companies
  • Companies providing 40 or more VTO hours a year receive a Good Neighbor Business certificate

The Need by the Numbers

1 in 3

Aroostook County residents will be 65 or older by 2035.

60%

of older adults in The County lack sufficient income to meet basic needs.

20%

of our older neighbors live alone, increasing the risk of social isolation.

29%

no longer drive, making it challenging to access critical services.

With generous community support, we served more than 4,200 older adults and their care partners across Aroostook County in 2024, but the needs are growing, and so is the urgency to act.

The Difference You Make Is Tangible

Together, we can strengthen the future of aging
in Aroostook County with compassion and care.
